Grandfather Why

Another new song...called "Grandfather Why." It's still somewhat of a work in progress, but I'm happy to share it. The lyrics derive from a poem written while I was at Westmont and although inspired by experience, the dramatic themes were born of much creative license. :)

Grandfather why
Why was your life such a tragedy?
Passing the time
Never stopping to cherish the moments of peace.

Grandfather tell me,
Did you ever find love?
In all of that sadness
Did your work seem enough?

Tipping your hat and walking your way never stop to ever think you might say
I love you, to those who hold you close
Button your vest and tie up your shoes, never think of everyone you might lose
Who love you, and long to know you most

Grandfather Why
Were the riches worth it?
To tear family ties
And let anger profit?

Grandfather tell me,
Did you imagine it'd be this way?
A legacy of broken dreams
and life in disarray?

I watched those eyes
I held those hands
I saw the cries
Could never understand
How you let your life
Slip away.
