Take the Lead

Today's post is a Brittney Brown Original. The videos leading up to now have all been covers of songs I have learned and loved, but today's is something new. It's called "take the lead" and is based on a poem I wrote a few years ago. The natural outside setting was a must-have for this video so I decided to film it on our back porch...and just missed a torrential downpour! (well, you know, for California anyway.) So I got a little wet as the rain started softly falling during the song, but it made for a fun experience. If you listen carefully, you can hear some thunder in the background. Needless to say, there are a few distractions in the song, and a few "harsh" chords, but with the beautiful rain shower it was a lovely setting. :)

Also, I was playing around with some recording software and created a really fun version of this song with a choir of "mes" using my amateur recording skills. Check it out. :)

Here's my poem that inspired this song...

Winter Calls

Take this trembling hand

As we leap.

Take this trembling hand

And we’ll keep the seasons turning.

I’m like a leaf

Blown into a whirlwind

Spinning faster until you

Reach out and grab me.

A moment, weightless in time.

Take this trembling hand

As we dance.

Take this trembling hand

A chance to move to music unwritten.

I’m like a leaf

Whisked into a pirouette

Turning faster until you

Reach out and take the lead.

A moment, frozen in time.

It's Autumn and the leaves are falling

Dancing one by one.

It’s Autumn and the trees are saying

See what you’ll become

As winter calls, please hold my trembling hand

And lead me through.
