Doubting Thomas

This is a song by Nickel Creek...and if you're not familiar with them, definitely look up their "Smoothie Song" and you will love them! They are amazing musicians with some blue grass twang. :) I first heard this song in our New Testament Class with Prof. Fisk at Westmont. Ever since then it's had a sweet place in my heart and I'm excited to share it with you today.

Love is a River

This song is somewhat of a jam-sesh. I wrote it yesterday afternoon after tiring of reading my business associations textbook. Whenever there's musical inspiration, I like to run with it and finish my homework later. :) Please excuse the choppy cuts here and there--I kept forgetting the words (and chords) since I was still kind of making it up as I went. Here are the lyrics...

Love is a river

Love is a fire

How can this be?

It flows the deepest

It burns the brightest

in every part of me.

What will happen

When I find a way to set it free

Let it be?

It will light the night

It will drown the fight

It will set the captive free

It will start a blaze

In these trepid days

one the blind can't help but see

And believe

Love is a passion

brought forth from ashen

things been burned away

Love is a feeling

the power of healing

washes over me each day

What will happen

when I meet you face to face

All fear will flee away

Where Hatred, Anger, Darkness linger

Love will battle through and renew

Grandfather Why

Another new song...called "Grandfather Why." It's still somewhat of a work in progress, but I'm happy to share it. The lyrics derive from a poem written while I was at Westmont and although inspired by experience, the dramatic themes were born of much creative license. :)

Grandfather why
Why was your life such a tragedy?
Passing the time
Never stopping to cherish the moments of peace.

Grandfather tell me,
Did you ever find love?
In all of that sadness
Did your work seem enough?

Tipping your hat and walking your way never stop to ever think you might say
I love you, to those who hold you close
Button your vest and tie up your shoes, never think of everyone you might lose
Who love you, and long to know you most

Grandfather Why
Were the riches worth it?
To tear family ties
And let anger profit?

Grandfather tell me,
Did you imagine it'd be this way?
A legacy of broken dreams
and life in disarray?

I watched those eyes
I held those hands
I saw the cries
Could never understand
How you let your life
Slip away.

Far Away

Good Day to all,
Today's video is another original of mine called "Far Away." It's a solemn sounding song, in 3/4 time, also written last year during my first semester of law school...hence the solemnity. :) It describes a time of change when dreams and passions transform; the past is falling away, the future is foggy, and what begins is a journey into the unknown....

"Far Away"

Somewhere over the rainbow
there is a place where only my dreams know
Someday maybe I'll find them
and where they've hidden all of my
Heart's desires away...

Hidden away
Far Away from here

Till then I'll keep on chasing
that endless promise arched overhead
But when will it cease
When will those dreams take flight
to the clouded sky and fly

Away
Far away from here.

Somewhere over the rainbow
there is a place where never will I go
to find dreams stuck in their earthenly graves
So I say goodbye as I turn away

Off to another day
Far away...from here.

So I say goodbye.

1L

Here's another song of mine--written during my first semester of law school. It represents the very frustrating, challenging months of that first year, but also has a glimmer of hope and vision for what's to come. I now present: "1L."

Why do we cry?

Why do we wallow?

Pity our lives

For others to follow

Why don't we try?

Stuck in our sorrow

Throw off our lives

When there's hope in tomorrow

Look beyond the case and brief

See the time when you and me (I know, I know...you and I)

We will be the judge.

That's why we try

For those filled with sorrow

We hold their lives

And seek justice for tomorrow

All you knew, all you were

All you thought about the world

Is overturned

Ingrid!

As I mentioned earlier, I am a big fan of Ingrid Michaelson and love playing her stuff, so today's post is a special treat! :) A trio of videos! All fabulous Ingrid songs, and all with my own flare as usual.

I have been learning and growing in many different ways these last couple of months, and one thing that has been on my heart is to cherish the seemingly small things in life. To stop waiting for what will come and live life as we have it now. So many of Ingrid's songs do just that: they make ordinary life sparkle through the use of simple sincerity and some poetic license.

These are short, sweet, and slightly lyrically incorrect, but hey it's fun!

#1--The Way I Am

#2--Lady In Spain
--mouth trumpet interlude omitted simply because no one can quite duplicate that! :)

#3--Overboard

Deciphering Me

Hey Yall,
This is a Brooke Fraser song that gets stuck in my head all the time and is so fun to sing. It's been a while since I've posted a new video so enjoy this one and I hope to have more this week before school starts again!
